Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. today announced the appointment of Theodore Cowling to the position of associate director of athletics for sports medicine. Cowling joins the Pride after eight years at Columbia University.  

"I am very happy to welcome Theodore to our sports medicine staff," said Cole Jr. "He brings a great deal of experience to the role and has demonstrated a commitment to making decisions with the best interests of the student-athlete in mind."

Cowling joined the Columbia University athletic training staff in July 2018 and was promoted to associate athletic trainer for the Baker Athletics Complex in 2022. His primary sport assignments with the Lions were football and baseball.

Prior to his stint at Columbia, Cowling served as an assistant athletic trainer at Rutgers University for two years (2016-18), where he worked primarily with the Scarlet Knights' baseball team. Cowling also spent two years as an assistant athletic trainer at Seton Hall University (2014-16), working with the men's soccer, men's & women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and softball teams.

A baseball student-athlete in college, Cowling is a 2011 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, where he earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology and exercise science. He went on to earn a master's degree in athletic training from Seton Hall in 2014. While a graduate student at Seton Hall, Cowling had athletic training internships with the Army West Point Athletics Department (2014), the New York Jets (2013), Ridgewood High School (2013), and Seton Hall (2012).  In 2026, Cowling earned a second master's degree in information and knowledge strategy from Columbia.

Cowling is a certified athletic trainer and member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
