A campus visit need not end at the parking lot. Hofstra University's home in Hempstead, New York, makes Long Island the starting point for an itinerary reaching into New York City and neighboring states. Whether you are gathering classmates, entertaining visiting family, or reconnecting with fellow alumni, choose an outing that fits your group's pace. Stay nearby for an easy evening, or reserve a full day for a regional adventure.
Professional basketball development comes close to campus in Uniondale. The organization began its inaugural NBA development-league season in 2016. Its home opener is November 13, 2026, at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The club also reached the NBA G League Finals in 2019. Choose this for a basketball outing that keeps your classmates together on Long Island.
This NHL franchise began competing in the 1972–73 season. Consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980 through 1983 established its defining dynasty. Home games at UBS Arena in Elmont provide autumn and spring options. Try watching the skaters away from the puck to anticipate developing chances. A higher seat can suit newcomers who would rather follow the whole rink than concentrate on individual collisions.
Central Islip's baseball tradition took flight with the club's inaugural season in 2000. The 2019 Atlantic League championship added another memorable chapter. Home games take place at Fairfield Properties Ballpark, east of Hofstra. Keep this option in mind for spring planning, checking game dates separately from ticket availability. For a relaxed family gathering, leave room in the itinerary for an unhurried meal and the first pitch.
The club's New York history began in 1903. Its first World Series championship followed in 1923. The Bronx home schedule opens March 25, 2027, at Yankee Stadium. Treat that spring date as a planning opportunity, not a guarantee that every ticket option is already available. Bring a scorecard, compare favorite baseball memories, and let an afternoon at the ballpark become a conversation across generations.
This Grand Slam's origins reach back to Newport, Rhode Island, in 1881. The championship moved to Flushing Meadows in 1978. Hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center now frame its Queens setting. Singles and doubles offer different ways to appreciate elite positioning and shot selection. Compare the court and session attached to each ticket rather than selecting solely by the tournament's reputation.
Founded in 1967, the franchise won American Basketball Association championships in 1974 and 1976. Its current NBA home is Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Choose a seat with the court perspective your group prefers. A wider view rewards anyone interested in spacing and ball movement. For an alumni gathering, build dinner around the game and agree on the return journey before the evening starts.
The franchise's New Jersey chapter began in 1982. Stanley Cup victories followed in 1995, 2000, and 2003. A November 18, 2026, home date at Newark's Prudential Center celebrates the host city. This is a New Jersey excursion, not a Long Island neighborhood outing. Allow ample travel time, especially when coordinating classmates, and make the arena visit the main commitment rather than squeezing hockey between other appointments.
An original Major League Soccer organization, the club began play in 1996. Supporters' Shield victories in 2013, 2015, and 2018 mark its strongest regular-season campaigns. Home matches take place at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. November 7, 2026, is scheduled as Fan Night. Plan this as a regional soccer trip, with transportation settled early so the match can command your attention.
Established in 1925, this NFL organization has won eight league championships. Four of those titles came in the Super Bowl era. Home games require traveling to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The upcoming calendar includes November 12 and November 22, 2026. For a family football day, organize parking or transit first, then leave enough flexibility to enjoy the occasion without rushing.
Concert Dates Worth Circling
Formed in 1967, this ensemble built its identity around rock music powered by horns. The familiar catalog includes the 1972 hit "Saturday in the Park." A 2016 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction recognized its enduring influence. The band performs November 13, 2026, at Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair in Westbury, New York. For the Hofstra community, this nearby engagement makes a practical choice for a multigenerational evening together.
The Puerto Rican artist introduced her debut project,
Trap Kitty, in 2022. Her Latin trap approach gained early attention through "Riri." A 2025 Grammy nomination for Best Música Urbana Album marked another career milestone. The Late Checkout Tour reaches Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on November 5, 2026. Consider this date for friends seeking contemporary urban Latin music, and compare the location of each seating section before choosing your group's tickets.
The singer launched his solo recording career in 2017. His pop catalog includes the funk-inflected "Watermelon Sugar." That song earned his first Grammy in 2021. The Together, Together residency includes an October 30, 2026, Harryween performance at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. Use the occasion for a festive Manhattan evening, leaving a comfortable arrival window rather than trying to move directly from a late campus commitment to the arena.
The group formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991. Its sound combines rock, folk, and jazz with an improvisational sensibility. The catalog includes "Don't Drink the Water," and the ensemble entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024. The 2026 Fall Tour visits Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, on November 12. Choose this for listeners who enjoy instrumental interplay, while remembering that a favorite recording does not guarantee a particular night's setlist.
The Florida vocalist's breakthrough emerged around the 2019 single "Heart on Ice." His music combines Southern rap with soulful singing and personal storytelling.
SoulFly reached the top of the Billboard 200 in 2021. The Don't Look Down Tour comes to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on October 27, 2026. This is an option for listeners drawn to emotional delivery, with a confirmed autumn date that can anchor an evening away from campus.
The singer's debut album,
Get Lifted, arrived in 2004. His R&B repertoire includes the piano ballad "Ordinary People." That recording helped establish a career recognized with three Grammys in 2006. He performs November 14, 2026, at Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Connecticut, for its fall gala. Treat this as a regional road trip and review the ticket tier carefully, because concert-only seats and packages including the gala are different offerings.
Broadway Stories for the Journey Home
Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss created this musical for the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017. Henry VIII's wives reclaim their stories through a pop-concert format rather than a conventional royal biography. The Broadway opening followed in October 2021. Its score earned a Tony Award in 2022. The production currently plays Manhattan's Lena Horne Theatre, making it a city outing for Hofstra theatergoers who enjoy contemporary musical energy paired with a pointed reconsideration of whose history gets told.
Adapted from S. E. Hinton's novel and its film version, this musical follows teenagers navigating class conflict in 1967 Tulsa. Adam Rapp and Justin Levine wrote the book. Jamestown Revival and Levine supplied the score, including "Stay Gold." The production earned four Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Its Broadway home is the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in Manhattan, an option for groups interested in loyalty, belonging, and the pressures that shape young lives.
Created by SpitLip, this musical premiered at London's New Diorama Theatre in 2019. Its story turns a 1943 wartime deception involving a corpse into an audacious comedy. The show won the 2024 Olivier Award for Best New Musical. A Broadway production followed in 2025 at Manhattan's Golden Theatre. Performances are currently on sale through April 25, 2027, giving theatergoers a verified spring option as well as an opportunity to experience a very unconventional historical caper.
The Settings Behind the Experience
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
Uniondale's arena opened in 1972 on former Mitchel Field land. An extensive renovation culminated in its 2017 reopening. Its basketball seating capacity is 14,500, while concert configurations accommodate up to 16,000. An aviation-inspired aluminum exterior and redesigned concourses connect the property's history with a more contemporary visitor experience.
Barclays Center
Opened in 2012, this Brooklyn arena was designed by AECOM and SHoP Architects. Its basketball seating capacity is 17,553, with concert configurations reaching 19,000. A green roof helps manage stormwater and provides sound insulation. The multipurpose building brings professional sports and major touring productions into one recognizable destination for a city evening.
Lena Horne Theatre
Built in 1926, this Manhattan playhouse stands on West 47th Street. Its 2022 renaming made it Broadway's first theater named for a Black woman. The seating capacity is 1,069. A redecoration in 2000 restored the original chandelier, giving visitors a striking reminder of the building's theatrical heritage before the performance begins.
