Hofstra Dominates William & Mary On Senior Day

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra defense held William & Mary to just nine shots on the day, while four Hofstra players scored multiple goals in the Pride's 15-2 CAA victory over William & Mary Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. The game was Hofstra's regular season finale and the Pride celebrated its four seniors - Luchianna Cardello, Julia Harris, Nikki Mennella, and Madeleine Rudolph - prior to the game. 

Hofstra moved to 10-6 overall and 6-1 on the season with the win and will be the No. 2 seed in the CAA Championship that gets underway Thursday at Stony Brook. William & Mary sees its season end at 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the CAA.

Defenders Christine Dannenfelser and Brighid Smith put the pressure on William & Mary all game with each player notching four caused turnovers. Smith also had six ground balls. Mennella paced the offense with five goals and three assists, while Kayleigh Bender chipped in with four goals and one assist. Shannon Steck had three goals and Harris added two. 

The game was never in doubt as the Pride scored the first three goals with Bender, Mennella, and Steck finding the back of the net. Following a William & Mary goal from Mila Millhouse with 1:46 to play in the first, the Pride ran off six unanswered goals to lead 9-1 with 8:04 to play in the third quarter. 

Following Millhouse's second of the game with 7:37 remaining in the third, the Pride scored six more goals to close out the game. 

Cardello made four saves in goal for the Pride, while Tribe keeper Anna Lopez stopped five shots. 

Hofstra will take on No. 3 Towson in the CAA Semifinals Thursday at LaValle Stadium with a 2:30 p.m. first draw. 

Notes:
-Hofstra moved to 17-7 all-time against William & Mary.
-Hofstra's 10 wins are the most since 2019 (12).
-Smith set new career-highs in caused turnovers and ground balls.
-Hofstra won 15 of 19 draw controls with Mennella (6), Rudolph (4), and Dannenfelser (4) combining for 14.
-The nine shots and two goals were the second lowest total of the season by a Hofstra opponent behind Wagner's six and one, respectively.
