Hofstra Blanked In Series Opener At Northeastern

Brookline, MA - Nick Biddle had a pair of hits and Carlos Martinez struck out nine batters in 5 ⅓ innings, but three Northeastern pitchers combined on the shutout in an 8-0 CAA win Friday at Friedman Diamond. 

Hofstra slipped to 14-21 overall and 8-11 in the CAA with the loss. The Huskies improved to 24-16 overall and 14-5 in league play with their fourth consecutive victory. 

Biddle had a pair of singles as the Pride put up six hits in the game. Northeastern starter Robbie O'Connor (7-1) tossed six scoreless frames, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts. Andrew Rogovic went two innings without allowing a hit and struck out three before David McSweeney tossed a scoreless ninth, allowing a pinch hit double to JJ DeVito. 

Martinez (2-2), who struck out 15 in his last start, allowed four runs on five hits. He also walked four and hit a batter. The Huskies put up a run in the first as Tyler Harmony led off with a walk, moved to third on a single, and scored on Matt Brinker's single. The score would remain that way until the sixth when Northeastern scored four times to pull away. Brinker hit a two-run home run to make it a 3-0 game before Charlie Criscola and Henry DiGiorgio added RBI singles for a 5-0 lead.

Northeastern would score three more times in the eighth with Harmony getting an RBI single and Harrison Feinberg a two-run double. 

The teams continue the series Saturday with a 1 p.m. start time. 

 Notes:
-Northeastern pitchers did not walk a batter.
-The shutout loss was Hofstra's third of the season.
