Falen Hurls Complete Game Shutout In Win At Stony Brook

Stony Brook, NY - Emma Falen threw a complete game three-hit shutout and Alanna Morse drove in two runs as Hofstra blanked Stony Brook, 3-0, in the opening game of a CAA series at University Field. The win, coupled with Drexel's loss to UNCW, clinched a spot in the CAA Championship for the Pride.

The Pride improved to 24-18 overall and 16-3 in the CAA with the win. Stony Brook dropped to 16-22 overall and 8-8 in league play. 

Falen notched seven strikeouts and walked just one to improve to 11-10 on the season. She got all the run support she would need in the third inning as Gemma D'Orazio led off with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a double from Morse. Hofstra would add a run in the sixth on a solo home run from Gabby Sultan and tacked on another in the seventh as Lily Yepez doubled, stole third, and scored on a Morse ground out. 

Ella Hayes had two of Stony Brook's three hits. Naiah Ackerman had the third. Jayci Finch (9-8) started and took the loss for the Seawolves, allowing three runs on six hits over 6 â…” innings.

The teams continue the series Saturday with a 2 p.m. start.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 25-12 against Stony Brook and has won the last five meetings.
-Hofstra moved to 15-11 in road games.
-Falen notched her 11th complete game and fifth shutout of the season.
-Yepez had two sacrifice bunts in addition to her double. 
-Sultan's home run was her fourth of the season.
