Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University has once again partnered with The LandTek Group to complete upgrades to two of its premier athletic facilities - Bill Edwards Stadium, home of Hofstra softball, and James M. Shuart Stadium, home of Hofstra men's and women's lacrosse.
The project continues Hofstra's long-standing relationship with LandTek, one of the region's leaders in sports facility construction and turf installation. LandTek has worked with Hofstra on numerous projects over the years, helping to ensure the Pride's student-athletes have access to some of the finest athletic facilities in the nation.
"The support Hofstra University continues to show for its athletics programs is absolutely incredible," said Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics
Rick Cole Jr. "From President Poser and the University's leadership to our outstanding partners at LandTek, these projects are yet another example of the institution's deep commitment to our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Hofstra community. Our relationship with LandTek has been exceptional for many years, and their work continues to help us maintain first-class facilities that reflect the pride and excellence of Hofstra University."
"LandTek is proud of our long-standing relationship with Hofstra University and the trust they continue to place in our team," said John Sulinski, Chief Operating Officer, The LandTek Group. "For many years, we have worked closely with Hofstra to deliver high-quality athletic facilities that support student-athletes, coaches, and the broader university community. These new fields represent a continued investment in performance, safety, and durability, and we're honored to play a role in enhancing the athletic experience for the Hofstra program."
Bill Edwards Stadium has undergone a comprehensive transformation designed to enhance performance, safety, and durability throughout the facility. The project included the installation of a new outfield fence with padding, along with new tension-system backstop netting and extended backstop padding from dugout to dugout to improve both player safety and the fan experience. The field now features upgraded drainage infrastructure and a new ALLSPORT XPS Turf surface extending through the outfield, warning track, and foul territory to ensure consistent, all-weather playability. Additionally, the existing infield and bullpen clay were removed and replaced with new Hilltopper clay and conditioner, while new dugout netting frameworks and padding further modernize the facility. Together, these enhancements represent a significant investment in Hofstra softball and underscore the University's commitment to providing first-class playing conditions.
ALLSPORT XPS Turf is a high-performance synthetic turf system engineered for athletic fields and multi-sport surfaces. It features advanced XPS slit-film fibers manufactured through a patented extrusion process, resulting in a durable, comfortable, and resilient playing surface that closely mimics the look and feel of natural grass. The unique fiber structure enhances durability and player safety while providing a softer, more forgiving surface underfoot. ALLSPORT XPS systems offer superior playing comfort, reliable traction, and long-lasting performance for sports including football, soccer, baseball, softball, and lacrosse.
Shuart Stadium is now outfitted with Pivot® Performance Turf. Pivot® Performance Turf is a next-generation synthetic turf system engineered by TenCate to deliver natural-grass-like performance without the need for traditional performance infill such as sand or rubber. Developed through extensive biomechanical research and athlete-centered testing, the system mimics the traction, give, and stability of high-quality natural grass—supporting predictable play, reliable footing, and consistent ball response under real athletic loads. Pivot's dense fiber construction and advanced design also deliver durability, low maintenance, and all-weather playability year-round. By eliminating infill, Pivot reduces maintenance, minimizes microplastic dispersion, and offers a more environmentally conscious surface solution that lasts significantly longer than conventional turf systems and can be recycled at the end of its lifecycle.
The upgrades further enhance the experience for Hofstra's student-athletes, coaches, and fans, while continuing the University's commitment to providing championship-caliber resources for its programs.
