Hofstra Tripped Up At Villanova

Plymouth Meeting, PA - Hofstra rallied from a 6-1 deficit to take an 8-7 lead, but Villanova scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 9-8 victory over the Pride Wednesday afternoon at Villanova Ballpark. The Wildcats improved to 10-10 with the win, while the Pride dipped to 6-13.

Trailing 6-1 after four innings, the Pride scored three times in the fifth and sixth innings, tying the game at seven on JJ DeVito's home run, his first of the season. The long ball gave Hofstra the lead in the seventh as Danny Corona launched his first home run of the season, a solo shot that made it 8-7.

Villanova wasted no time to take the lead back in their next turn at bat as Larry Hotaling led off with a triple and came home on an infield error. The Wildcats loaded the bases later in the inning and scored what proved to be the decisive run on Michael Whooley's single.

Brayden Gregg (1-1) took the loss in relief, giving up two runs (one earned) in ⅔ of an inning. Villanova reliever Matthew Kahn (2-1) earned the win and Jake Francis pitched the ninth to earn his first save.
