Hofstra Makes Historic Run To CAA Semifinals

Washington, DC - 10th-seeded Hofstra closed the game on an 11-6 run over the final 1:41 to pick up a 55-50 win over second-seeded Campbell in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Credit Union 1 CAA Women's Basketball Championship Friday night at CareFirst Arena. The Pride became the lowest seed in CAA history to advance to the championship semifinals. 

Alarice Gooden scored four of her game-high 14 points in the decisive run. Emma Von Essen scored 11 points in the game, while Chloe Sterling made it a trio of Pride players in double-figures with 10 points. Sterling made three free throws down the stretch. 

Hofstra took a seven-point lead, 39-32, into the fourth quarter and led, 44-37 midway through the quarter following a Von Essen three-pointer. However, the Camels went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 44 with 3:06 to play on Ciara Alexander's layup. Neither team would score until Ema Karim's three gave the Pride the lead, 47-44, with 1:41 remaining. Following two missed shots by the Camels, Gooden's layup gave Hofstra a five-point lead with 40 seconds on the clock. Sterling extended the lead to seven, 51-44, with a pair of free throws with 29 seconds left. Campbell made it a four-point game four seconds later on Olivia Tucker's three-pointer, but Sterling and Von Essen each hit one free throw to extend the lead to six. Jasmine Nivar made it interesting with a three-pointer for Campbell with eight ticks left. However, Gooden made it a two-possession game with seven seconds left after two made free throws, which clinched the victory.

Karim finished with six points for the Pride and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds. Sandra Magolico scored six of her eight points over the first two quarters, helping Hofstra build a 25-20 halftime lead. 

Tucker had a team-high 10 points for Campbell, while Jasmine Felton grabbed seven rebounds. 

Hofstra improved to 10-21 with the win, while Campbell slipped to 20-12. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Camels. 

Hofstra will play third-seeded Drexel on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the CAA Semifinals.

-Hofstra leads the all-time series with Campbell, 3-2.
-Hofstra is making its seventh CAA Championship Semifinals appearance and first since 2021.
-Hofstra scored 14 points off 15 Campbell turnovers.
-The game featured six tie scores and five lead changes.
