Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Stephen Gorchov

Carter’s Career Day Powers Pride Past UNCW

Hempstead, NY - Micaela Carter poured in a game and career-high 23 points, including five three-pointers, to lead the Hofstra women's basketball team to a 75-43 rout of UNCW on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Carter eclipsed her previous career-high of 18 points, established at Stony Brook on January 30, 2026.

The Pride won its second consecutive game and for the third time in its last four contests to improve to 6-19 overall and 4-10 in CAA action. Interestingly enough, Hofstra has now won three consecutive Sunday games. UNCW dropped to 6-20 and 2-13 in conference play.

The margin of victory (32) is Hofstra's largest against an NCAA Division I opponent since defeating Buffalo, 79-36 (43), on December 3, 2015. The Pride did defeat Marywood by 36 (80-44) back on December 9, 2025 and Farmingdale State by 89 (113-24) back on December 16, 2023.

With Hofstra holding a 6-5 lead early in the game, the Pride used a 13-2 run to open up a 19-7 advantage with 2:16 left in the first quarter following a three-pointer from Nevaeh Brown. A jumper from Angelina Pelayo was able to help UNCW close the deficit to six, 21-15, with 8:36 left in the opening half before Hofstra began to pour it on. The Pride would score the next 16 points in the game, including seven from Ema Karim and five from Carter, to make it 37-15 with less than two minutes left.

Remarkably, Hofstra would score the first 16 points of the second stanza to completely blow the game open and lead 57-18 with three minutes left in the third quarter after a basket from Brown.

From there Hofstra was able to cruise to the win and empty the bench on their way to the dominating victory.

Sana'a Garrett chipped in with 11 points and four assists, while Chloe Sterling added seven points, five rebounds, and three assists. Emma Von Essen dished out a team-best five assists, one off her career-high. Karim was second on the team in scoring with 12 points and added five rebounds.

Kylah Silver led UNCW with 15 points and had eight rebounds, while Icyss Storm tallied 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Seahawks.

Hofstra returns to action on Friday, February 27 when it hosts Elon at 6 p.m. For ticket information visit HofstraTickets.com.
