Loudonville, NY -
Trevor Natalie had four points on three goals and one assist, but it was not enough as Siena jumped out to a big lead and held off a late Pride rally to defeat the Hofstra men's lacrosse team, 14-10, on Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field.
Anthony Mollica led the Pride with five points on a goal and four assists, while
Gus Langtry had his first career hat trick with three goals in the contest.
Hofstra dropped to 1-2 with the loss, while Siena evens its record at 1-1 this season.
It was all Siena to start as the Saints led 6-1 after one quarter. After trailing by six at the halftime break, Hofstra would score four of the first six goals out of the break to close the gap to four, 10-6, following an unassisted tally from Langtry. A goal from Natalie with four minutes left in the game would get Hofstra to within three, 12-9, but that would be as close as the Pride could get as they were unable to complete the rally.
Nico Ghicas saw his first action at FO for the Pride and won six face-offs.
Blake Cooling and
Matthew Vilas each led Hofstra with four ground balls, while
Austin Clarke tallied a team-high three caused turnovers.
Shea Kennedy had 10 saves in net for the Pride.
Patrick Radomski had five points on four goals and one assist for Siena, which also got three goals from Caden Olmstead. Vito DeBellis made 13 saves for the Saints.
Hofstra is back in action next Saturday when it "hosts" St. John's. That game will be played at Farmingdale State and begin at 2 p.m.
