Buies Creek, NC – The Hofstra women's basketball team started off its North Carolina road trip with a 58-47 defeat against hosts Campbell in February CAA action Friday night from the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center.

Hofstra is now 4-19 overall and 2-10 in the CAA, and Campbell improves to 16-9 overall and 9-3 in league play with the win.

Chloe Sterling led a trio of Hofstra players in double digits with 14 points, followed by Alarice Gooden and Emma Von Essen with 11 points apiece. Sandra Magolico led all players with 15 rebounds to go with her six points, and Gooden dished out five assists in the loss.

Campbell opened the game on an 11-2 run in the first quarter before the media timeout at 5:25 before Von Essen sunk the first of her three threes immediately out of the break. Campbell's Olivia Tucker answered with a jumper in the paint on the next Campbell possession, but Hofstra scored the next seven points inside the final 3:01 of the quarter on twos from Sterling and Nevaeh Brown and a Von Essen three to trail by one.

The Pride's scoring run continued into the second quarter with 10 unanswered points over the course of nearly four minutes to take a nine-point lead over the Fighting Camels, with Magolico and Gooden scoring four points each and Von Essen sinking a layup. Campbell ended the run at 5:46 and scored the next seven points to trail by two with 53 seconds left before halftime, but Von Essen knocked down her third three of the night with 46 seconds left before the buzzer to end the run and set the Pride ahead by five. Jasmine Felton answered Von Essen's three with one of her own on the next Campbell possession, but Hofstra would go into the locker room with a four-point lead thanks to a close-range jumper by Sterling with four seconds left on the clock before halftime.

Campbell and Hofstra traded threes to open the third quarter, with Ema Karim responding to a trey by Felton with one of her own to keep the Pride's lead at four, and Gooden extended the lead to six with a mid-range jumper on Hofstra's next possession at 8:27. Campbell cut the lead to two with 6:41 remaining in the quarter, but Magolico put an end to the run with a contested layup at 6:13 to the Pride's lead back to four. Jasmine Nivar sunk a three with 3:18 left in the quarter to make it a one-point difference, but Gooden responded on Hofstra's next possession with a three of her own to make it a four-point game. Campbell ended the quarter on a 7-1 run to take a 40-38 lead into the final 10 minutes of the contest.

Campbell jumped out to a nine-point lead to start the fourth quarter with a 9-2 run before Sterling went 4-4 from the line to bring the Pride to within five with 6:42 to play. After a Gooden free throw at 3:25 cut the Pride's deficit to six following a two-point bucket by Nivar, the Fighting Camels held Hofstra scoreless until Sterling scored a driving layup with 18 seconds left.
