The Pride opened the season with a 97-51 win over St. Joseph's (Long Island) on Monday before nearly 4,000 fans in attendance on "Class At The Court" day at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Trey Boyd III led Hofstra with 18 points, including four three-pointers in his first game action in a Pride uniform. Joshua DeCady, the lone returning starter from last season's CAA Championship team, added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Princeton began the year with a 78-46 victory over Carnegie Mellon on Monday. Dalen Davis led the Tigers with 16 points, while Christopher Kirkpatrick added 13 points.

This will be the 10th all-time meeting between Hofstra and Princeton with the Pride holding a 5-4 lead in the series. The teams last met in 2023 with Princeton earning a narrow 74-67 win. Hofstra has won four of the last six meetings in the series, including a stretch of three straight from 2019 to 2022. The last meeting in Princeton resulted in an 83-77 Pride victory in 2022.

Both programs are connected by a former head coach as Butch van Breda Kolff led each program at one time. van Breda Kolff was the head coach at Hofstra from 1955-62 and again from 1988-94 and led Princeton from 1962-67.
