Hofstra Tripped Up By William & Mary

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra had a season-high 17 shots, but William & Mary made an early second half goal stand in a 1-0 CAA victory over the Pride Thursday at Captains Field. The loss snapped a five-game unbeaten streak for the Pride and was the first in league play.

Hofstra dipped to 3-6-4 overall and 2-1-2 in the CAA, while William & Mary improved to 4-5-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the league. It was the Tribe's third consecutive victory.

A scoreless first half saw the Pride hold a 9-1 shot advantage. Hofstra's Amy Meadows had two great opportunities with her initial shot getting saved by Mia Tegeris and her shot off the rebound hitting the post.

Ava Magnuson scored her fifth goal of the season at 52:13 with Mia Abbey notching the assist. Magnuson lofted a shot from 30 yards out over the head of Lilly Bailey. The Pride would come close to scoring the equalizer later in the half as Hailey Moschitta had a shot off the crossbar and then had a goal waved off due to offsides following a video review.

Hofstra returns to action Sunday when it hosts Hampton at 1 p.m.
