Meadows Brace Leads Hofstra Past Hampton

Hempstead, NY - Amy Meadows scored a pair of first half goals as Hofstra held off Hampton, 2-1, in a CAA game on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Captains Field. Hofstra moved to 4-6-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the CAA with the victory.

Meadows put the Pride on the board 1:24 into the contest as Emma Johnson sent a ball into the box from the left side that was touched on by Marika Svensson to Meadows, who blasted the shot past keeper Avery John for the 1-0 lead. Just about 32 minutes later, Johnson started the Hofstra scoring play as she passed the ball to Alexia Bromfield down the left side. Bromfield sent a pass to Meadows and she converted for her team-best sixth goal of the season.

The Pirates (2-11-1, 0-6-0) got on the board at 69:49 as Jayda Sutton sent a low shot in on Hofstra keeper Lilly Bailey. The Pride's junior netminder was in position for the save, but the ball slipped through her wet gloves and in for Sutton's third goal of the season.

But the Pride defense bore down and did not surrender another shot on goal over the final 20 minutes to preserve the win. Bailey would finish with one save on the day. John made one first half save for Hampton, while Arianna Myers had three stops in the second half.

Hofstra returns to action Sunday at home versus Monmouth with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
