Hofstra Gets Past Northeastern In CAA Finale, Clinch CAA Championship Berth

Brookline, MA - Lewis Matton's goal nearly seven minutes into the second half snapped a 1-1 tie and Hofstra went on to post a 2-1 victory over Northeastern in a CAA contest at Parsons Field. The victory clinched a conference playoff berth for the Pride with one week remaining in the regular season.

Hofstra moved to 9-3-4 overall and finished the CAA regular season with a 4-1-3 mark. Northeastern is 5-6-4 overall and 2-3-2 in the CAA with one game to play.

Hofstra opened the scoring at 34:25 as Axel Ruben dribbled left to right across the box before sending a shot into the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead. Northeastern tied things up 2:24 later as Kortay Koc sent in a long distance shot that found its way in.

Matton's game -winner was set up by a nice run down the right side from Jordan Hoey, who slid a pass across the box with Matton knocking it in at the back post. The Huskies had a good chance to equalize in the 72nd minute but keeper Milo Risenhoover made a diving stop on a Koc shot to thwart the attempt.

Hofstra will close the regular season with a non-conference game Tuesday night at Columbia. Game time is 7 p.m.
