Hsu's Goal Gives Hofstra Huge CAA Win Over Monmouth

Hempstead, NY - Jadyn Hsu's first career goal snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted Hofstra to a 3-2 CAA victory over Monmouth Sunday afternoon at Captains Field. The win was Hofstra's second consecutive victory.

The Pride improved to 5-6-4 overall and 4-1-2 in the CAA with the win. Monmouth dropped to 7-3-5 overall and 2-2-3 in league action with the loss.

Monmouth opened the scoring early, as Evangeline Perdomo scored an unassisted goal just 2:50 into the contest. Hofstra answered at 21:03 as Amy Meadows sent in a cross from Alexia Bromfield, with her low shot deflecting off the foot of a Monmouth defender and past keeper Tallulah Miller.

Bromfield would add a goal to her name at 58:48, as she was in the right place at the right time to deflect an attempted clearing pass from right in front of the net off her shoulder and in for a 2-1 Pride lead. The Hofstra defense limited the Hawks opportunities for most of the first half and into the second until a foul was called on the Pride just outside of the box. The Hawks capitalized on the ensuing free kick as Maddie DeMaio's kick found the head of Loren Gehret, who sent the shot past Lilly Bailey to make it a 2-2 game.

That set up Hsu's heroics. The sophomore collected a loose ball after a cross from Maggie Peterson was punched out by Miller and lifted a shot into the upper half for the 3-2 lead. The Pride defense held off a frantic sMonmouth attack the rest of the way to secure the win.

Bailey had four saves for the Pride, while Miller made six stops for Monmouth.

Hofstra returns to action next Sunday at Drexel with a 1 p.m. start time in Philadelphia.
