Charleston, SC - Hofstra senior
Izadora Stedile became the 18th member of the 1,000-kills club at Hofstra as she had 24 kills and 22 digs in a five-set loss to Charleston on Friday evening at TD Arena. The loss was the Pride's first of the season.
Stedile entered the match needing 21 kills to reach the milestone and got the kill midway through the fifth set. She is the first Hofstra player to reach 1,000 career kills since Michela Rucli in 2018. She now has 1,003 career kills.
Hofstra, which entered the match tied for the best start in program history (with 1988) fell to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in CAA play. Charleston improved to 7-6 and 1-2 in league action.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-11, 26-24, 24-26, and 13-15.
After dropping the first set, Hofstra quickly responded and dominated in the second set before earning a narrow two-point win in the third set to take the lead in the match. The Cougars responded late in both the fourth and fifth set, though, to capture the match between the league rivals.
Nina Jioshvili-Ravva posted a season-best 41 assists and added 11 digs and three service aces.
Beatriz Braga had 16 kills and 15 digs for the Pride, which also got 17 kills from
Clara Bal.
Caroline Noonan led Charleston with 17 kills, while Lauren Dow had 49 assists and 12 digs.
Hofstra and Charleston will face each other on Saturday at 12 p.m. to close the weekend series.
NOTES
- Hofstra trails Charleston, 15-12, in the all-time series.
- It was the second time this season Stedile has recorded 20 or more kills and the first time this season she has amassed 20 or more digs.
- Stedile is also nearing 1,000 career digs as she will enter Saturday's match needing only five to join the 1,000-digs club. She would become only the seventh player in program history to reach both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
