Hempstead, NY – The winning ways continued for the Hofstra field hockey team, as a pair of
Kesia Richardson goals and a lockdown defensive performance bolstered the Pride to a 2-1 win at home over visiting UC Davis. Hofstra improves to 5-2 on the year following the win, while the Aggies drop to 3-4.
Richardson's first goal came with 5:49 remaining in the opening quarter. On the Pride's third penalty corner of the afternoon, Richardson received the pass from
Jamie Mc Millan and saw her shot take a deflection off the stick of an Aggies defender and sail into the net for the 1-0 Hofstra lead. UC Davis evened the score on the final shot of the quarter, beating
Tessa Lambright low and at the far post with 12 seconds left before the buzzer sounded.
Hofstra retook the lead for good at the 6:17 mark of the second quarter. On the only penalty corner of the quarter for either team,
Gwenn van Dijk had a shot from the top of the arc denied with a diving save, but Richardson was in the right place at the right time to tap the rebound into the goal. Richardson's second tally proved to be the game-winner as the Pride kept UC Davis without a shot for the final three quarters to seal the win.
Mc Millan and
Teresa Karoff each registered an assist on Richardson's first goal. In net, Lambright got the start and she made one save in 60 minutes between the posts.
Hofstra's stretch of three consecutive home games concludes with the Coastal Athletic Association opener on Friday, September 26, at 3 p.m. against Drexel.
