Hempstead, NY - 9-0. For only the second time in program history, a Hofstra volleyball team has started a season with nine consecutive victories. Led by 13 kills from
Beatriz Braga and
Izadora Stedile, the Pride easily dispatched of UNCW in straight sets on Saturday afternoon to match the 1988 team for the best start in school history. The win also improved Hofstra to a perfect 3-0 at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center this season.
Stedile added 10 digs, while
Nil Kayaalp posted 13 digs to lead the way.
In addition to the 9-0 start to the season, Hofstra is also 2-0 in CAA play with the win. UNCW dropped to 1-10 and 0-2 in league action. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18, and 25-14.
Hofstra's defense was on point throughout the entire match as the Pride held the Seahawks to a negative hitting percentage in both the first and third sets and a .041 attack percentage for the entirety of the contest. After a slow start offensively, Hofstra dominated as the match went on and hit at a .457 clip in the second stanza.
Nina Jioshvili-Ravva posted 29 assists, five digs, three blocks, and three kills in the match, while
Julia Amorim tallied eight blocks to lead the way.
Avery Markham had seven kills and six digs for UNCW, which also got six blocks and three kills from Marnie Ursem.
Hofstra heads on the road next weekend as the Pride will face Charleston on Friday and Saturday.

- Hofstra moved to 37-7 all-time against UNCW. The Pride has won 11 straight meetings in the series.
- Hofstra's nine-match win streak is currently tied for the 12th-longest in program history.
- Stedile's double-double was her team-leading fifth of the season.
