Late Goal Lifts No. 9 Vermont Past Hofstra

Burlington, VT - Hofstra's Samuel Francou's first collegiate goal tied the score at one with just under 15 minutes to play, but Vermont's Niels Hartman scored the game-winner with nearly six minutes to go to lift the No. 9 Catamounts to a 2-1 victory over the Pride Tuesday at Virtue Field.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Hofstra, which dropped to 4-3-0 on the season. Vermont, the 2024 NCAA National Champions, remained undefeated at 5-0-3.

A scoreless first half saw the Catamounts pressure the Pride with six shots, but only one on goal. The Catamounts kept the pressure going in the second half and broke through at the 68:49 mark on Philipp Kuehn's goal from Maximilan Kissel.

Francou would tie the score just about seven minutes later as he converted a pass from Evangelos Chrysostomou from the top of the box at 75:14. But Hartman scored the decisive goal with a header off a pass from Nicolas Loebus at 83:49.

Hofstra keeper Gino Cervoni posted a career-best five saves in the loss, while Vermont's Niklas Herceg stopped two shots, both in the second half.

The Pride returns to action Saturday night at home against Monmouth in a CAA contest that gets underway at 7 p.m.

-Hofstra is 6-7-1 all-time versus Vermont.
-The Catamounts held an 18-5 shot advantage and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
