Hofstra Salvages Draw Versus FDU Behind Dziewirz and Watson

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra spotted FDU a 2-0 lead before goals from Carly-Ann Dziewirz and Polly Watson allowed the Pride to salvage a 2-2 draw against the visiting Knights Thursday night at Captains Field. Hofstra moved to 3-1-1 on the season with the tie, while FDU is now 0-2-1 on the season.

Alexa Castro, who had just come in as a sub for FDU, put the Knights on the board when she took a through ball from Laura Martinez into the box and put a shot past Hofstra keeper Lilly Bailey at the 30:10 mark. Allison Nase would score an unassisted goal at 42:08 as she collected a deflected pass just inside the 18 and put a shot into the lower left corner for a 2-0 lead.

Dziewirz would notch her first career goal just over two minutes later to get the Pride on the board. The sophomore forward took a short pass from Millie Davies on the run on the left side of the box and rolled a shot that eluded keeper Rosemarie Leblanc with 28 seconds remaining in the half.

The score would remain that way until 87:17 when a misplay in front of the FDU goal allowed Watson to knock in a loose ball and tie the game at 2.

Bailey made two second half saves for the Pride, while Leblanc stopped six Hofstra shots.

Hofstra returns to action September 6 at home versus Loyola Maryland. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
