Hempstead, NY – The Coastal Athletic Association announced its Preseason All-CAA Field Hockey teams Thursday afternoon, and three Hofstra student-athletes received preseason all-conference honors. Seniors
Jamie Mc Millan and
Pilar Penaloza were placed on the Preseason All-CAA team, and senior
Teresa Karoff was named to the honorable mention team.
Hailing from Krefeld, Germany, defender Mc Millan was named All-CAA Second Team last season after finishing with two goals and an assist for five points in defense. Mc Millan led all Hofstra field players with 1,009 minutes played, and she started along the Pride backline in all 19 games. In defense, Mc Millan came through with four defensive saves, leading the CAA and ranking 12th in the country.
A forward from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Penaloza totaled a career-high 781 minutes played in 19 appearances and 14 starts while tallying two goals and an assist for the Pride in 2024. Both of Penaloza's goals, plus her assist, came in Hofstra wins; she scored against Sacred Heart on September 13, provided the assist on September 15 against LIU, and she scored to first of two Hofstra goals in CAA action versus William & Mary on October 18.
A defender from Berlin, Germany, Karoff led the team with five goals and three assists for 13 points, putting her in a tie for 16th in the conference, while starting all 19 games last season with 727 minutes. Karoff had two three-point games against Central Michigan and LIU, while she scored goals versus Miane, Rider, and Northeastern, and she also dished out an assist against William & Mary.
In addition to the Preseason All-CAA Team, the CAA announced its Preseason Coaches Poll. The Pride received 10 points to finish tied for fourth with Towson by the league's coaches. Drexel was selected as the preseason favorite to finish first in the conference with 25 total points and five of six first-place votes.
The Pride begins its 2025 season at UAlbany at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 29, before opening Cindy Lewis Stadium on Sunday, August 31, against Sacred Heart at 12 p.m.
