Moschitta's Moment; Late Goal Lifts Hofstra Past Saint Joseph's In 2025 Opener

Hempstead, NY - Hailey Moschitta's header goal with 5.6 seconds remaining lifted Hofstra to a 2-1 victory over visiting Saint Joseph's Thursday night in the 2025 season opener at Captains Field. The Pride scored twice in the second half to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Hofstra had tied the game at one at the 65:40 mark with a set piece goal. Gabriella Marte sent in a free kick from just in front of the Hofstra bench that Olivia Pearse redirected past Hawks keeper Alli Popham. The game winning tally came as Hofstra made one final push. Peterson sent in a long ball from the far sideline that Moschitta headed into the upper right corner.

Saint Joseph's opened the scoring at 19:39 as Emily Hanrahan picked up a loose ball just in front of the Hofstra box and sent a shot in from about 18-yards.

Hofstra held a 22-2 advantage in shots and hit the post or crossbar on three shots including a penalty kick. The Pride also had eight corner kicks to Saint Joseph's three.

The Pride will look to move to 2-0 when they host Quinnipiac Sunday at 1 p.m.
