Pride Wins Wild One Over Fighting Camels

Hempstead, NY - Nikki Mennella had another magical performance with nine points on six goals and three assists and the Pride rallied from a three-goal fourth quarter deficit to earn a thrilling 12-11 victory over Campbell on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

It was the fourth time this season that Mennella has remarkably scored at least nine points in a game.

Megan Flannery celebrated her "Senior Day" in style as she tallied a career-high four goals in the win, including the Pride's final two of the day. Her game-winner came with 6:19 left in the fourth quarter after she tied the contest with 8:01 showing on the clock.

Luchianna Cardello was huge in net for the Pride with 11 saves. It was her third game with at least 10 saves this season.

Hofstra moved to 7-5 overall and evened its CAA record at 2-2 with the win. Campbell dropped to 3-9 and 1-4 in conference action with the loss.

The Pride was forced to rally all game as Campbell held an early 4-2 lead and expanded it to 6-3 late in the first quarter. Hofstra would take some much-needed momentum into the second quarter as Kristen Redding scored with 48 seconds remaining to make it a two-goal game.

After a low-scoring second quarter, the deficit for Hofstra grew to as many as four, 10-6, late in the third quarter. Flannery and Mennella were huge in the waning moments of the third stanza, though, as they scored back-to-back goals in the final 87 seconds to close the gap to two entering the fourth quarter.

A goal from Delaney Nicolaus early in the fourth quarter pushed the lead back to three for the visitors, but the unstoppable duo of Flannery and Mennella led the charge for the Pride. Mennella scored at the 12:11 mark to get the game-closing run started and closed the gap to one with another goal with 9:03 showing on the clock. It was then Flannery's time to become the hero with her two goals in the final 8:01 to make it a 4-0 game-ending run for the Pride.

Julia West had a career-high three assists for a career-high three points in the game, while Kyndall Jackson tied her career-high with two assists. Christine Dannenfelser tallied five ground balls and two draw controls, while Mennella led the way with four draw controls. Jacky Sutherland had two caused turnovers for Hofstra.

Rasa Welsh had six points on two goals and four assists for Campbell, while Sam Bischoff (2 G, 1 A) and McKenna Duncan (1 G, 2 A) each contributed three points for the Fighting Camels.

Hofstra is back in action next Friday, April 11, when it hosts Towson at 7 p.m. For ticket information visit HofstraTickets.com. That game will air on LacrosseTV and FloCollege.
