Nikki Mennella led all scorers with five points on two goals and three assists, but Rutgers rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Hofstra women's lacrosse team, 11-8, on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
The Pride led 7-6 following a Mennella goal with 12:45 showing on the clock in the fourth quarter before the Scarlet Knights used a 4-0 run to take the lead for good en route to the three-goal victory.
Hofstra dropped to 5-2 with the loss, while Rutgers improved to an identical 5-2 with the victory.
The Pride jumped out to an early 3-1 lead as three different goal scorers found the back of the net for Hofstra in the first seven minutes of the game. After Rutgers tied it up to end the first quarter,
Julia Harris and
Angelina Sparacio tallied back-to-back goals to open the second stanza to make it a two-goal Pride lead.
The back and forth game would once again be tied at the end of the third quarter before Hofstra took its last lead of the afternoon on the Mennella goal with 12:45 remaining. Rutgers would rally from there to earn the win.
Harris added two goals for Hofstra, while
Kate Lemery,
Megan Flannery, and
Kayleigh Bender each chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Christine Dannenfelser posted six draw controls and two ground balls, while Lemery had a team-high four ground balls in the game.
Luchianna Cardello made a season-high 12 saves for Hofstra.
Alexa Corbin had four points on a goal and three assists for Rutgers, while Caroline Ling had three goals and Lily Dixon contributed three assists.
