Hofstra Wins Big on Senior Day

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra women's basketball team closed out the 2024-25 regular season with its fifth straight win, this time posting a 69-53 victory over visiting Northeastern from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on a special Senior Day.

Prior to the opening tip, the Danielle Santos Atkinson and the Hofstra women's basketball team honored departing seniors Janaia Fargo, Ramatoulaye Keita, and Zyheima Swint in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

The win puts Hofstra at 14-15 overall and 9-9 in the CAA entering the postseason, while Northeastern ends its regular season with an overall record of 2-24 and a CAA mark of 2-16. The Pride finishes the regular season tied for sixth in the CAA standings, its highest CAA finish in the Santos Atkinson era.

On a day where Hofstra honored its seniors, it was a freshman who led the team in scoring, as LaNae' Corbett posted 16 points on the Huskies, while Keita and Emma Von Essen finished with 12 points each in the win. Keita also finished with 14 rebounds to give her a double-double for the third time this season, and she posted a personal-best five assists against the Huskies.

Hofstra jumped out to a 10-1 lead early in the fourth quarter, and the Pride didn't allow a Northeastern field goal until the 3:01 mark. Hofstra kept up the offensive intensity with 10 unanswered points to push its lead to 18. Sabrina Larsson bookended the run with a three at 2:52 and another with 54 seconds to go, while Keita scored four points in between Larsson's threes. A three-point play from Northeastern's Abigail Jegede put the score at 21-6 to the Pride.

The Pride ran its lead over the Huskies to 22 points with an early 10-3 run to begin the second quarter. Northeastern brought the deficit under 20 with a three from Camille Clement, but a running jumper by Fargo at 2:49 made it a 21-point difference late in the quarter. Four straight points by Alyssa Staten made it a 33-16 score with 1:43 left, but a three from Kassidy Thompson at 1:31 began a 6-2 run to end the quarter with the Pride on top, 39-18.

The first seven points of the third quarter belonged to Hofstra, as the Pride's lead ballooned to 28 inside the first three minutes of the third frame. The hosts kept its lead in the 20's over the Huskies with excellent team defense and well-timed baskets, and the Pride carried a 25-point advantage over Northeastern into the fourth quarter. Northeastern outscored Hofstra, 21-12, in the fourth quarter, but the game was still well out of reach by the final buzzer.

Jegede scored 19 points to lead Northeastern in scoring, and Staten posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

With the regular season now concluded, Hofstra turns its attention to the 2025 Credit Union 1 CAA Women's Basketball Championship from CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C. The Pride will receive a bye to the second round, where it will face nine-seed William & Mary on Thursday, March 13, at 12 p.m. All games from the 2025 Credit Union 1 CAA Women's Basketball Championship will be broadcast on FloCollege, and the championship game will air on CBS Sports Network.
