Lynchburg, VA – On the Hofstra's softball team's final day in Lynchburg at the Liberty Softball Classic, the Pride dropped both of its games from Liberty Softball Classic. Hofstra, now 0-9 on the season, lost 4-2 to Charleston Southern before falling 8-0 in five innings to RV/#25 Liberty.
Game 1: Charleston Southern 4, Hofstra 2
Tyler Douglas drove in the game's opening run in the second inning on a double to left field, scoring
Anna Butler from second. The Pride added a second run in the top of the fourth with another RBI double from Douglas, this time driving in
Olivia Malinowski, to make it 2-0 Hofstra. Unfortunately, Charleston Southern scored all four of its runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the 4-2 lead. The Buccaneers kept Hofstra off the board for the remainder of the game despite allowing five Hofstra baserunners after the fourth inning. The Pride had runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh inning after
Lily Yepez led off the inning with a single and Butler reached base on an infield single, but
Gabby Sultan's drive to the outfield fell short of bringing at least one run home.
Douglas was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two doubles and a single, and she recorded both of Hofstra's runs against the Buccaneers.

Receiving votes in the latest NFCA/GoRout rankings and ranked #25 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, Liberty scored seven runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead over the Pride, before tacking on an eighth run in the second. Aside from a first inning single by
Mackenzie Fitzgerald and a fielding error that allowed Fitzgerald on base in the fourth, no Hofstra player reached based for the entire game.
Emma Falen struck out two Liberty batters in three innings, while
Emma Brennan got the start against the Flames.
