Butler Ties Single-Game Record For Hits In Hofstra’s Win Over Seton Hall

Charlottesville, VA - The Hofstra softball team picked up a win over Seton Hall, 13-12, in the nightcap of the Pride's two games on day one at the Party at Palmer Invitational at the University of Virginia. Anna Butler was a star in the game as she went 5-5 at the plate. Her five hits tied the program record for hits in a seven-inning game and was one off the program record of six hits in a game (in a 20-inning contest).

Butler tied Tara Ulrich, who had five hits against St. John's on April 19, 2006, and Diana Rose, who tallied five hits versus Brooklyn on May 7, 1992. Crystal Boyd had six hits against Connecticut in the 20-inning game on April 28, 1992.

The win over Seton Hall was Hofstra's second of the game as the Pride dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Cornell in the first game of the day. Hofstra improved to 1-10 this season, while Seton Hall is now 3-8 and Cornell is now 3-3.

In the victory over the Pirates, Alanna Morse tallied three hits and scored three runs, while Chelsea Villar drove in four runs and had a pair of hits. The Pride scored three times in the sixth inning to account for their 13 runs and push them to the win. Villar had the big base knock in the inning with a two-run single to center field. Haley Venturini earned her first win of the season in the circle, while Emma Falen got the save for the Pride.

Villar, Mackenzie Fitzgerald, and Dahlia Palacio all had two hits against Cornell in the first game of the day. The Pride scored single runs in the first, third, and sixth innings to hold a 3-1 lead at the time but Cornell rallied with three runs in their final at bat to capture the victory.

Hofstra has a pair of games on the schedule on Saturday as the Pride will face nationally-ranked Virginia at 4 p.m. before closing the day with Cornell at 6:30 p.m.
