Waco, TX - The Hofstra softball team made its season debut on Friday night and gave #23 Baylor all it could handle before the Bears pulled away late for a 7-0 victory over the Pride at Getterman Stadium.
Emma Falen made her first appearance in a Pride uniform and worked a complete game, striking out six and throwing 119 pitches.
The Pride showed no fear in the opening inning of the season as
Chelsea Villar led off the game with a single and
Dahlia Palacio followed with a walk to put two runners on. Despite moving the runners over to second and third, Hofstra was unable to plate any runners in the first frame.
Baylor would tally three runs in the opening inning with all three coming with two outs. Presleigh Pilon drove home the first run before Amber Toven brought home two more for the early advantage.
The Bears added a single run in the third before finishing the scoring with a trio of runs in their final at-bat.
In addition to Villar's hit,
Victoria Frobosilo had the Pride's other base hit in the contest with a second inning single.
