Hofstra Gets Past Loyola Maryland For Fourth Straight Win

Hempstead, NY - Pablo Hempelmann-Perez scored his first goal of the season and the Hofstra defense made it stand as the Pride won for the fourth consecutive time with a 1-0 victory over Loyola Maryland Tuesday night at Captains Field. The four-game winning streak is Hofstra's longest of the season.

Hofstra moved to 8-4-0 on the season with the non-conference victory. The Greyhounds slipped to 2-8-1 on the season.

The Pride had a couple of good scoring chances in the early stages of the first half, both by Laurie Goddard. A shot off a corner kick was saved by Loyola's Connor O'Keefe, while a header on a cross went off the crossbar.

However, with just under five minutes to play in the opening stanza, Goddard sent a through ball into the box to Hempelmann-Perez. The senior from Toronto, Ontario, made a quick move around a defender and buried a left-footed shot with 4:49 on the clock.

The Pride defense was solid all game and turned it up in the second half. The Greyhounds had just one shot on goal in each frame with Pride keeper Gino Cervoni stopping both.

The Pride will return to action Saturday with a CAA contest at Stony Brook. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
