Hempstead, NY -
Michael Graham had 12 points and a career-high 21 rebounds for the Pride, but the Hofstra men's basketball team dropped a 69-67 overtime decision to Campbell on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Jean Aranguren led Hofstra in scoring with 14 points.
Graham, who tallied his fourth double-double of the season, became the first Hofstra player with at least 20 rebounds in a game since Rokas Gustys had 21 against William & Mary on February 15, 2018.
Hofstra slipped to 11-10 and 3-5 with the loss. Campbell improved to 10-11 and 5-3 with the victory.
The Pride held a 20-13 lead with around six minutes left in the first half before using a 14-3 run to open up a 34-16 advantage with 2:11 remaining before the break following a three-pointer from
Khalil Farmer.
Campbell scored the first seven points of the second stanza to close the gap to 36-27 just over two minutes in. Hofstra still held a 10-point lead, 48-38, after a three-pointer from Aranguren with 11:04 left before the Fighting Camels continued their rally. A 13-4 run made it a one-point game heading into the final moments. Campbell would send the game to overtime with a three-pointer with two seconds left.
Neither team took more than a three-point lead in overtime with Aranguren tying the game with 17 seconds left on a pair of free throws. It wouldn't be the Pride's day, though, as Colby Duggan won the game for Campbell with a jumper with just over a second to play in the extra session.
Cruz Davis tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Pride, while
German Plotnikov and Farmer each chipped in with 11 points. Plotnikov added a career-high five steals in the game.
Duggan posted 23 points for Campbell, which also got 22 points from Nolan Dorsey.
Hofstra will go on the road for its next two games as the Pride heads to Elon on Thursday, January 30 for a 7 p.m. game before closing next weekend with a 1 p.m. contest at this same Campbell squad on Saturday, February 1.
