Pieke Roos tallied eight saves in a rain-soaked Friday afternoon from Delaware's Fred P. Rullo Stadium as the Hofstra field hockey team suffered a 4-0 defeat on the road against the Fightin' Blue Hens in Coastal Athletic Association action. The loss puts the Pride at 2-6 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Delaware (5-3, 2-0 CAA) got on the board inside the three-minute mark of the opening quarter, before Roos and the Hofstra defense kept the Blue Hens scoreless in the second quarter. A Delaware goal with 2:35 remaining third quarter made the score 2-0, and a pair of fourth quarter goals at 11:22 and 0:08 put the score at 4-0 in favor of the hosts at the final buzzer.
Of Roos' eight saves, three came in the third quarter, while she made two in the first quarter and one stop in the second.
Tara McNally forced a late save from Delaware's goalie with under five minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Hofstra returns home for back-to-back games from Cindy Lewis Stadium, starting on Friday, October 4, against nationally-ranked UAlbany at 3 p.m.
NOTES:
-Hofstra had one penalty corner and one shot, all coming in the fourth quarter.
-Hofstra's all-time record against Delaware is now 7-32.
