Hofstra Tripped Up At Delaware

Newark, DE - Maggie Groh scored in the 82nd minute to snap a 1-1 tie as Delaware picked up a 2-1 Coastal Athletic Association victory over Hofstra Sunday at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium. Hofstra saw its record move to 3-2-4 overall and 1-1-0 in CAA play. Delaware is 3-4-2 overall and 1-0-0 in league action.

The Blue Hens struck first as Ava Sallee sent a low liner into the lower right corner, past a diving Mackenzie Sullivan, at the 26:50 mark. The Pride would even things up at 39:03 as Gabriella Marte sent a free kick into the box that caromed off a Delaware defender. Mathilde Braithwaite was in the right place and sent a left-footed shot into the upper left corner for her second goal of the season.

The winning goal came at the end of an offensive flurry by the Hens. Delaware had two shots blocked by defenders before Groh collected the ball and lofted a left-footed shot over keeper Synne Danielsen into the upper left corner for the 2-1 lead.

Hofstra will return to action Sunday, September 29 versus Towson. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the Pride will be celebrating Alumnae Day with the dedication of Captains Field.
