Hempstead, NY - Playing before the home crowd for the first time this season, the Hofstra volleyball team dropped a four-set affair to Binghamton despite a herculean effort from
Clara Bal.
Bal tallied 18 kills, eight assists, and eight digs and tallied 13 of those kills in the final two sets as she attempted to lead the way in the match for the Pride.
The Pride slipped to 2-4 with the loss. Binghamton improved to 5-3. Set scores were 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, and 25-23 in favor of the Bearcats.
Hofstra rallied in the second set, hitting .306, to tie the match at one set each. The final two sets were both tight, with the visitors narrowly escaping with two-point wins in each stanza.
Izadora Stedile tallied 13 kills and 20 digs for the Pride, which also got 10 kills and 20 digs from
Beatriz Braga.
Tsvetelina Illieva had 20 kills, seven digs, and five blocks for Binghamton. Danit Cohen tallied 24 assists and 12 digs for the Bearcats.
Hofstra returns to the court on Friday when it heads to the Black Knights Invitational. The Pride will face the host Army West Point on Friday at 6 p.m.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 2-3 all-time against Binghamton. It was the first meeting since 2017.
- Bal fell two kills shy of her career-high in that category, while tallying a career-best in assists. She previously had six assists versus St. Francis Brooklyn on September 7, 2022.
- Stedile posted double figures in kills for the fourth consecutive match and the fifth time this season.
- Stedile tied her career-high with 20 digs. She most recently had that total against Seton Hall on September 9, 2023.
- Braga posted a new career-high in digs with 20. Her previous career-high was 18 against Stony Brook on November 11, 2023.
