Hofstra's Season Ends At CAA Championship

Wilmington, NC - Steve Harrington and Will Kennedy each had two hits in Hofstra's 16-6 loss to fifth-seeded William & Mary in an elimination game at the Coastal Athletic Association Championship at Brooks Field. The loss ends Hofstra's season with a 24-33 record.

The Pride wasted no time, scoring three times in the top of the first. Dylan Palmer walked to lead off the game, stole second, went to third on a groundout, and scored on the back end of a double steal with Alex McCoy. Steve Harrington then drove his second home run of the championship over the left field fence for a 3-0 Hofstra lead.

William & Mary (32-25) answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the score. After the Pride took a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a wild pitch, the Tribe responded with five runs, all with two outs, in the bottom half to open an 8-4 lead. Ben Parker had an RBI double, while Anthony Greco added a run-scoring single. The Tribe also scored on an error, a bases loaded walk, and a wild pitch in the inning. Greco would add an RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-4.

Hofstra got a run back in the top of the sixth as Will Kennedy singled home Dylan Palmer, who had singled and stole second. But the Pride wasted an opportunity for more as they loaded the bases with no outs but did not score.

The Tribe scored six times in the seventh to break the game open, and the teams traded runs in the eighth with Santino Rosso hitting a sacrifice fly.
