Newark, DE – The Hofstra softball team was held hitless in a 1-0 defeat at Delaware in the second game of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association series against the Blue Hens from the Delaware Softball Diamond. Hofstra moves to 15-22 and 12-8 in the CAA, and Delaware improves to 32-9 and 17-3 against conference opponents.
Delaware's run came in the first inning. After Julz Garber led off the inning with a single and reached second via stolen base, she was brought home for the RBI on a two-out single to the outfield. Blue Hens pitcher Morgan Hess allowed only three Hofstra batters on base the entire game, and none past third base passed the second inning.
Despite the loss,
Julia Apsel pitched another terrific game with five strikeouts against one run, one walk, and four hits allowed.
Kayla Wilson drew both of Hofstra's walks against Hess and Delaware.
With the series tied at 1-1, the rubber match between the Pride and the Blue Hens takes place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 76-29 all-time against Delaware.
-Apsel has struck out at least five batters in 13 games this season.
