Newark, DE – The Hofstra softball team was held scoreless for the second consecutive game as the Pride dropped a 4-0 road contest to Delaware to conclude its series from Newark, Delaware. Hofstra's record is now 15-23 and 12-9 in the Coastal Athletic Association, while the win puts Delaware at 33-9 and 18-3 in league play.
Delaware took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Blue Hens pitcher Morgan Hess limited Hofstra to just three walks after
Becca Vaillancourt hit a lead-off double in the top of the first. A three-run fifth inning blew the game open for the Blue Hens, making the score 4-0 late in the series-deciding game.
Kayla Wilson and
Nicole Cancel each tallied late singles to put runners on base, but Hofstra couldn't cut into Delaware's lead before the final out.
Julia Apsel got the start in the circle and pitched three strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work, and
Annabella Pisapia pitched the sixth inning.
Hofstra returns to Bill Edwards Stadium for four consecutive home games, beginning on Wednesday, April 24, at 4 p.m. against Fordham.
