Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra softball team closed out its Coastal Athletic Association series against Stony Brook with a 7-1 defeat Sunday afternoon from Bill Edwards Stadium. Hofstra sits at 13-21 and 11-7 in the CAA, and Stony Brook's win pushes them to 24-13 and 12-6 against the league.
Olivia Malinowski put Hofstra in front with solo home run to left in the first inning, and
Julia Apsel and the Pride defense kept Stony Brook scoreless for three innings until the Seawolves plated three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. The visitors added another two runs in the fifth inning, and Kyra McFarland scored the final runs of the day with a two-run inside the park home run.
Chelsea Villar had a season-high three hits in four at-bats against the Seawolves, while Malinowski had a single in addition to her home run, and
Chelsea Manto recorded two hits in three trips to the plate.
Kayla Wilson drew two of Hofstra's four walks.
Julia Apsel struck out one Stony Brook batter in 4.0 innings of work, and
Annabella Pisapia pitched the remaining 3.0 innings.
The Pride hosts St. John's in non-conference action on Wednesday, April 17, at 5 p.m.
NOTES:
-This was Villar's first multi-hit game of her collegiate career.
-Manto stole her 13th base of the season in the second inning.
-Hofstra's all-time record against Stony Brook is now 21-11.
