Elon Rallies Past Pride

Elon, NC - Elon scored four runs in the fifth inning to turn a 6-5 deficit into a 9-6 lead and went on to post an 11-6 victory over Hofstra Sunday at Latham Park. The victory gave the Phoenix a Coastal Athletic Association series sweep of the Pride. 

Hofstra dropped to 11-23 overall and 3-9 in the CAA. Elon is 14-21 overall and 4-8 in league play.

The Phoenix struck for five runs in the fourth inning. Vince Fattore had the big hit with a three-run home run that made it 5-0. 

Hofstra replied with a six-run top of the fifth. The Pride had six consecutive hits as Penn Sealey led off with a single and went to third on a double from Luke Masiuk. Mike Dorcean put Hofstra on the board with a single and Michael Florides followed with an infield single that made it 5-2. Dylan Palmer singled to load the bases for Santino Rosso, who delivered a two-run single. After Rosso stole second, Will Kennedy knocked in a run with a groundout and Steve Harrington put the Pride on top with a sacrifice fly that plated Rosso. 

The lead was short-lived as Elon scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to go back up by three, 9-6. The Phoenix scored a run on a sacrifice fly and one on a wild pitch before Kenny Mallory Jr. drove in the last two with a double. Elon would tack on two more runs in the eighth.

Reliever Danny Kelleher (2-1) took the loss for the Pride, allowing three runs (2 earned) on four hits in ⅓ of an inning. Liam Dabagian (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Phoenix with Chris Garrelts pitching the final two innings for the save. 

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Fairfield.

Notes:
-Palmer had two hits for Hofstra, his 17th multi-hit game of the season. 
-Will Kennedy saw his 13-game hitting streak come to an end. 
-Hofstra has lost five consecutive games.
