Four Named To NWCA Scholar All-America Team

Hempstead, NY - Four members of the Hofstra University wrestling team - Keaton Kluever, Jake Slotnick, Noah Tapia, and Alex Turley - have been recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as Scholar All-Americans, it was announced today by the organization.

The award recognizes exceptional student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in academics and athletics. For a student-athlete to be eligible for Scholar All-America recognition, they must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and have won 60% of their total matches or participate in their conference qualifying tournament, or they must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have been a NCAA national tournament qualifier in the same academic year. A total of 338 scholar-athletes from 78 institutions across the nation were recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Kluever, a graduate student pursuing an advanced certificate in social media marketing, owns a 3.9- grade point average. In his first season at Hofstra, Kluever placed eighth at the EIWA Championships and represented the Pride at the NCAA Championships. He finished the season with a 15-7 record (10-3 in duals) and was ranked No. 26 in the final InterMat rankings at 285 pounds. 

Slotnick, a freshman 165-pounder, posted a 3.82 grade point average during the fall 2023 semester. An undecided major, Slotnick compiled nine victories during his rookie campaign and was 4-3 in dual matches.

Tapia had an impressive freshman campaign, compiling a 22-15 record and a 9-5 dual meet record at 149 pounds. The 22 wins led the team. In the classroom, Tapia compiled a 3.80 grade point average as an undecided major. 

Turley, a red-shirt freshman at 141 pounds, owns a 3.66 grade point average and is majoring in accounting. He picked up seven wins during the 2023-24 season.
