Newark, DE - The Hofstra men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 6-2 lead but Delaware rallied in the second half and eventually earned a 13-10 win over the Pride on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
Sam Lutfi and
Griffin Turner each had two goals for the Pride, while
Justin Sykes posted a goal and an assist in the contest.
Hofstra dropped to 3-6 and 0-2 in conference play with the loss. Delaware is now 4-3 and 2-0 in the league.
Lutfi and Sykes scored the game's first two goals and Lutfi and
Ryan Woodland would add goals later in the first as the Pride opened up a 4-1 lead with three minutes left in the opening quarter. After a Delaware goal, the Pride would get tallies from
Trevor Natalie and
John Madsen as they pushed the lead to 6-2 midway through the second quarter. The Blue Hens were able to close the gap to one at the break as they scored the final three goals of the first half.
The lead would be back up to two for Hofstra early in the third quarter as
Vincent McDermott scored to make it 7-5 with 12:05 left in quarter. The game would go back-and-forth at that point and a goal from
Trey Parkes made it 8-7 Pride with just over nine minutes left in the third. The Blue Hens took control at that point, though, as they scored five straight goals to lead 12-8 with 13:11 left in regulation. Turner tried to key a late game rally for Hofstra as he scored twice in the fourth quarter to close the gap to two, but the Pride was able to get any closer as Delaware earned the three-goal victory.
John Madsen added a goal and four ground balls in the game, while Chase Patteson led the Pride with five ground balls.
Sean Henderson posted seven saves and three ground balls in the game.
Mike Robinson had six points on five goals and one assist for the Blue Hens, which got 11 saves from Kevin Ellington.
