Nikki Mennella led the Pride with three goals, while
Megan Flannery and
Melissa Sconone added two each, but the Hofstra women's lacrosse team dropped a 18-11 decision to Army West Point on Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium.
With the loss the Pride dropped to 1-3 on the season, while Army earned their first win, improving to 1-4.Â
Nikki Mennella got Hofstra on the board early to lead the game 1-0, but minutes later Army came back with two of their own.
Melissa Sconone was able to tire it back up with five minutes left in the first quarter. The Black Knights score four straight goals to take a 6-2 lead. The Pride tallied three more to close the gap to 6-5. Two of those goals were scored by
Nikki Mennella, completing her hat trick before the half.Â
Army scored twice at the beginning of the third quarter to make it an 8-5 lead, but Hofstra followed with two by
Melissa Sconone and
Megan Flannery before Army score four more times to close out the third, 12-7. After four more Army goals to begin the fourth, Hofstra briefly ended the scoring run with goals from
Lauren Coletti and
Taylor Mennella with just under seven minutes left to play. In the final minutes of the game, Army scored twice more and
Kerry Walser's goal in the final forty seconds made it a seven goal deficit for the Pride.
Luchianna Cardello made six saves throughout the game, while the two Army goalkeepers made one each. Taylor and
Nikki Mennella each added two assists for the Pride, while
Nikki Mennella added five points total for Hofstra.
Kate Fiola added a career-high of three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Christine Dannenfelser tied her season-high with two ground balls and two caused turnovers in the game.Â
Brigid Duffy led the Black Knights with seven goals and eleven points, while Allison Reilly posted six points on four goals and two assists.Â
