Darlinstone Dubar had game-highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season in leading the Hofstra men's basketball team to a commanding 73-58 win over Delaware in the quarterfinals of the CAA Championship on Sunday evening at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The Pride has advanced to the semifinals of the CAA Championship in five of the last six seasons.
Dubar was aided by a stellar all-around game from
Jaquan Carlos, who had 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Hofstra improved to 20-12 with the win. The Pride has won five of its last six games.
With 20 wins on the season, it marks the program's fifth consecutive 20-win season (not including the shortened 2020-21 campaign). Overall it is the 26th time in program history that Hofstra has won at least 20 games and the 17th time at the NCAA Division I level (since 1966-67).
Delaware dropped to 19-14.
The Blue Hens were in front by four with 5:59 left in the first half before the Pride put down the clamps defensively and took over. Hofstra would score the final 10 points of the half and hold Delaware scoreless over that time to earn a 35-29 lead at the break.
Tyler Thomas had five points during the run, while Dubar added four.
Hofstra's run would extend to 14 straight spanning the two halves as a pair of Dubar baskets in the opening minute of the second stanza made it 39-29 with 19:02 remaining. Delaware would be within eight, 44-36, before Hofstra scored six straight including, including four from Carlos, to take a commanding 50-36 lead with 15:25 on the clock.
The lead stayed in double figures and a dunk from
Jacco Fritz pushed it to 16, 61-45, with nine minutes left. The lead grew to as much as 18 in the final minute before Hofstra settled for the 15-point victory.
Thomas finished with 20 points for the Pride.
Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led Delaware with 23 points, while Jyare Davis had 13.
Hofstra will face Stony Brook in the CAA semifinals on Monday at 8:30 p.m. That game will air nationally on the CBS Sports Network and WRHU will have an audio-only broadcast available on the HAWC.

- Hofstra now leads the all-time series with Delaware, 69-34. Hofstra has won eight straight, 15 of the last 17 and 21 of the 24 meetings dating back to the 2014-15 season. The Blue Hens are the Pride's most-played opponent all-time.
