Seniors Shine As Hofstra Routs Elon

Hempstead, NY - Tyler Thomas added another outstanding night to his career as he led the way with 25 points and added seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals in an 87-64 rout for the Hofstra men's basketball team over Elon on Saturday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. 

It was a total team effort for the Pride as Darlinstone Dubar had 17, Jacco Fritz added 14, and German Plotnikov chipped in with 11. 

Prior to the game, Hofstra held its annual "Senior Day" ceremony and honored Darlinstone Dubar, Jacco Fritz, Bryce Washington, Myles Wilmoth, and Tyler Thomas

The win moved Hofstra's record to 18-11 overall and 11-5 in conference play. The Pride has won three straight, seven of its last eight, and 10 out of its last 12 games. In addition, the Pride has won eight consecutive home games. 

After an early five-point deficit, Hofstra woke up in a big way and quickly regained the lead at 12-9 with 13:46 left in the opening half. Later on, the Pride would turn a narrow 16-15 advantage into a 31-15 lead as they scored 15 straight points. The run culminated with a three-pointer from KiJan Robinson and Plotnikov added five points during the run to help the offensive outburst. The lead grew to as many as 23 in the opening 20 minutes before Hofstra settled in for a 17-point halftime advantage. 

Hofstra quickly pushed the lead back to 22 early in the second stanza and the lead would be more than 20 the majority of the half. The Pride's largest lead of the contest was 26 on a pair of occasions, the last time at 75-49 with 7:51 left following a basket from Thomas. 

Jaquan Carlos finished with eight points, four rebounds, and nine assists for Hofstra, while Fritz had a double-double with 10 rebounds. 

TK Simpkins led Elon with 24 points and added six rebounds and four assists. Max Mackinnon had nine points and five rebounds for the Phoenix. 

Hofstra will head on the road for the final week of the regular season as the Pride will face UNCW on Thursday at 7 p.m. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is 13-5 all-time against Elon and the Pride has won eight of the last 10 games in the series with the Phoenix. 
- In addition to the home win streak, Hofstra is 75-18 at home over the past seven seasons and has won 23 of its last 27 home contests. 
- Over the past 10 seasons, Hofstra is 113-20 in games in which they hold their opponent under 70 points. 
- Dubar now has 1,247 points at Hofstra to move into 22nd place in program history. Thomas now has 1,228 points at Hofstra to move into 24th place in program history.  
- Fritz had his first double-double of the season. 
- Plotnikov tied his career-high with five assists. 
- Hofstra finished its home schedule with an 11-2 record.
