Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team hung tough against UAlbany, the 13th-ranked team in the country, for all 60 minutes, but the Great Danes prevailed with a 3-0 win over the Pride from Cindy Lewis Stadium.
Hofstra's record drops to 2-7 following the defeat, and UAlbany improves to 9-1 with its ninth-consecutive win.
After the Pride held UAlbany to just two shots in the first quarter, the visitors opened the scoring with 4:14 remaining before halftime on one of their seven penalty corners to make the score 1-0. The Great Danes added a second goal three minutes later on a scramble for a loose ball in front of
Pieke Roos' goal.
UAlbany's third and final goal of the day came at the 9:51 mark of the third quarter on a redirection of a penalty corner.
Roos totaled three saves on the day for the Pride.
Hofstra hosts Columbia on Sunday, October 6, at 1 p.m. There will be a pregame Senior Day ceremony, where the Hofstra field hockey program will honor departing seniors
