Hofstra Tops Hampton On Senior Day

Hempstead, NY - Seniors Mathilde Braithwaite and Gabriella Marte scored for Hofstra in a 2-0 Coastal Athletic Association victory over Hampton Sunday afternoon at Captains Field. The win was Hofstra's second consecutive victory.

The Pride moved to 6-2-6 overall and 4-1-2 in the CAA with the win, while the Lady Pirates dropped to 3-11-1 overall and 0-7 in the CAA. The loss was Hampton's seventh in a row.

Braithwaite notched her career-best fifth goal of the season just 8:13 into the game as she sent in a long cross from Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir from the left side. Marte notched her first goal of the season at 70:17 after Millie Davies' free kick went to Elli Gough at the back post. Gough was able to slide a pass to Marte, who was all alone in front of the net for the insurance goal. 

The Pride dominated play with 31 shots to Hampton's five. Mackenzie Sullivan started in goal for the Pride and did not face a shot in the opening half. Synne Danielsen came on in the second half and stopped the only Hampton shot on goal. 

Hampton keeper Avery John stopped a career-high 13 shots, while Morgan Edwards led the the visitors with two shots and had the lone one on target. 

Hofstra returns to action Thursday night, October 17, at Elon. 

Notes:
-Hofstra is 3-0 all-time against Hampton.
-Marte's goal was the second of her career.
-Hofstra had 11 corner kicks. 
-The Pride celebrated Senior Day with a pregame ceremony honoring Braithwaite, Marte, Sullivan, Gough, Matilda Liljefors, Louise Hayden, and Olivia Pearse.
