Thomas Reaches Two Milestones In Strong Defensive Effort

Hempstead, NY - It was a milestone night for Tyler Thomas as the high-scoring guard reached 2,000 career points and 1,000 career Hofstra points in the same game in a 64-55 win for the Hofstra men's basketball team over William & Mary on Thursday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Thomas finished the game with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The win was the Pride's third straight.

Thomas becomes the 42nd member of the 1,000-Point Club at Hofstra and joins teammate Darlinstone Dubar, who achieved the milestone earlier this season. Thomas is also only the eighth active NCAA Division I player to reach 2,000 career points.

German Plotnikov was strong throughout for Hofstra as he led the team with 15 points on 6-7 shooting from the field.

With the win Hofstra improved to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in CAA action. William & Mary dropped to 7-13 and 2-5 in the conference.

The Pride led wire-to-wire as Darlinstone Dubar got the scoring started and Hofstra tallied the first eight points of the game. A 9-0 scoring run midway through the first half pushed the lead to 19-6 following a basket from Bryce Washington. Hofstra eventually took a six-point halftime advantage.

The Tribe scored the first points of the second half before Hofstra used an 8-2 run to take a 36-26 after a basket from Jacco Fritz at the 17:33 mark. The lead would grow to as many as 16 in the second half as Fritz hit another basket to make it 50-34 with 12:45 showing on the clock.

Hofstra was never challenged the rest of the way in picking up the dominant home win.

Fritz was solid for the Pride with seven points and 11 rebounds, while Dubar had 14 points. Jaquan Carlos finished with eight points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Gabe Dorsey had 26 points for William & Mary, which also got seven points and 10 rebounds and Chase Lowe.

Hofstra will head to Monmouth on Saturday to close the month of January. Tip-off against the Hawks is slated for 2 p.m. and the game will air on FloHoops and WRHU (HAWC).
