Philadelphia, PA – A pair of Hofstra women's basketball players finished with double figures in a 56-38 road defeat to last season's CAA regular season champions Drexel on a snowy Friday night from the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Hofstra slips to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play, and Drexel improves to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the CAA.
Zyheima Swint and
Sorelle Ineza each finished with 11 points against the Dragons, with Swint posting a team-leading eight rebounds and four blocks.
Brooke Anya contributed five points and six rebounds for the Pride, and
Ally Knights dished out three assists and scored two points.
Swint scored the first three points of the night for the Pride to bring the visitors to within one of the Dragons at the 6:38 mark of the opening quarter, but it would be the closes Hofstra would come all night as the hosts scored 10 of the final 15 points to lead by six at the whistle. The Dragons carried a nine-point lead into the halftime break after outscoring Hofstra, 11-8, in the second quarter.
Despite keeping Drexel off the scoreboard for the first four minutes of the third quarter, Hofstra only came within seven of the Dragons as the home side eventually scored seven unanswered points to lead by 15 with 3:31 to go in the frame before carrying a 16-point advantage over the Pride into the fourth quarter. The Pride scored a game-high 13 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome Drexel before the final buzzer blared.
Chloe Hodges led all players with 14 points as one of four to finish in double-digits for the Dragons, and she matched Jasmine Valentine with nine rebounds.
Hofstra faces a quick turnaround with visiting Elon coming to the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on Sunday, January 21, with a 2 p.m. tip.
