Albany, NY – In the first road contest of the 2023 season, the Hofstra field hockey team suffered a 3-0 defeat to UAlbany despite an 11-save effort from
Hella Vorpagel. The Pride slips to 2-3 on the year, while UAlbany improves to 2-2 after Friday's contest from Albany, New York.
The Great Danes got on the scoreboard three minutes into the start of the contest on a penalty corner opportunity. Vorpagel saved the first two shots that came her way on the UAlbany opportunity, but the third just snuck past the freshman goalkeeper at 3:09. The second and third Great Dane goals came inside the final two minutes of the third quarter, with the second goal coming on a follow-up to a saved shot by Vorpagel at 1:44, and the third tally came on a penalty corner with nine seconds before the final whistle of the quarter sounded.
Tara McNally led the team with three shots and two shots on goal, while
Samantha Spera had two shots and one on goal, and
Kesia Richardson and
Jamie Mc Millan each tallied one shot.
Mara Kuskes, Alison Smisdom, and Floor de Ruiter all had one goal apiece for the home team, and Delphine Le Jeune recorded two assists for UAlbany. Lara Behn made three stops for the Great Danes in the win.
Hofstra returns home for a Sunday clash with Stonehill. The opening whistle is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
