Carmichael, Goldthorp Power No. 19 Pride Past Elon

Elon, NC - No. 19 Hofstra scored goals three minutes apart in the first five minutes of the second half and went on to a 3-0 victory over Elon in a Coastal Athletic Association game at Rudd Field. Ryan Carmichael had two goals, while Eliot Goldthorp added a goal and two assists. Goalkeeper Wessel Speel made three saves to earn the shutout victory.

Hofstra extended its unbeaten streak to nine games and its win streak to four, improving its record to 8-1-2 overall and 2-0-2 in CAA play. Elon dropped to 1-5-2 overall and 0-3-1 in league play.

Goldthorp opened the scoring with a penalty kick 1:51 into the second half. The kick was awarded after the Pride's Oliver Svalander was taken down in the box. Then, just 3:01 later, the Pride took advantage of a turnover deep in Elon's defensive zone as Goldthorp took a quick throw in to Carmichael, deep in the box, and the senior forward made a turn and fired a shot into the upper right corner.

Carmichael would get his second goal of the night at 71:01 as he took a pass from Goldthorp and raced into the right side of the box and sent a shot from about 16 yards past Elon keeper Tomas Wroblewski into the lower left corner.

Hofstra will return to action Tuesday night at Virginia. Game time from Charlottesville is 7 p.m.
